This document describes the billable items, billing modes, billing rules, and bill query methods for Application Load Balancer (ALB), helping you quickly understand ALB cost components. ALB supports the pay-as-you-go (postpaid) billing mode.
Billable Items
The cost of ALB consists of the following components:

ALB Load Balancer Capacity Unit (ALCU) fee | The fee generated for the performance metrics involved when an ALB instance handles workloads. | All instances |
Public network traffic fee | The network traffic fee generated for public network services provided via Elastic IP (EIP). | Public network instances only |
Note:
Public network traffic fees are not generated for private network instances.

Pay-As-You-Go (Postpaid)
With the pay-as-you-go billing mode, fees are settled hourly based on the actual usage of each billable item. This mode allows you to use resources first and pay later.
Billing cycle: 1 hour. The system settles and generates bills for the actual usage of the preceding hour on an hourly basis.
Less than 1 hour: Within a billing cycle, instance fees are calculated on a 1‑hour basis for the usage duration being less than 1 hour, but ALCU fees are calculated based on the actual consumption.

Instance Fee
The ALB instance fee is charged on an hourly basis. The fee is related to the instance specifications and usage duration. The usage duration of less than 1 hour is charged on a 1‑hour basis.

Instance fee = Instance unit price (USD/hour) x Actual usage duration (in hours)
ALCU Fee
ALCU is a unit that measures the performance metrics involved when an ALB instance handles workloads.
Billing Formula
ALCU fee = ALCU unit price (USD/unit) x Number of ALCUs
Public Network Traffic Fee
The public network traffic fee is generated only for public ALB instances. A public ALB instance provides public network access capabilities via a bound EIP, and the network traffic fee is separately charged by EIP. A private ALB instance only handles traffic within the virtual private cloud (VPC), and no public network traffic fees are generated.

You can query the ALB usage and bill details by using the following methods:
Method 1: Using Billing Center
Log in to the Billing Center console, choose Bill > Bill Details, and view the bill details of ALB. Method 2: Using a Product Monitoring Metric
Log in to the ALB console, click the monitoring icon of the target instance, and view the metric Number of Postpaid ALCUs. Pricing Details
