Overview

An analysis space is the core context of Buddy Data Analysis mode, aggregating tables, metric models, and knowledge bases into a small business-related scope. This document describes how to create an analysis space, add assets to a space, manage data within a space, and maintain a space.

Prerequisites

You have activated the DataBuddy service and completed workspace initialization.
You have switched to the Data Analysis mode of Buddy.
You have prepared data tables in Catalog, or you have published a metric model in Semantic Model.

Use Limits

Limit
Description
Mode
Visible and creatable only in Data Analysis mode.
Data source.
Only tables visible in Catalog and metric models published in the metric platform can be included.
Ownership of creation
A space is created by an individual account and can be shared with team members. After sharing, it is maintained by you as the administrator.

Operation Steps

Step 1: Go to Analysis Space Management.

1. Log in to the DataBuddy console.
2. In the workspace list, click the target workspace to enter it.
3. In the left navigation pane, click Buddy and select Data Analysis from the mode switcher.
4. In the Analysis Space area on the left, click the space switcher.
The switcher supports searching for existing spaces by name, and an entry for + Create Analysis Space is provided at the bottom of the list.

Step 2: Create an Analysis Space.

1. In the space switcher, click + Create Analysis Space.
2. On the creation page, select Metric Model and Data Table (at least one of the two is required). You can select semantic models published by the metric platform, as well as tables under Catalog Schema. A maximum of 30 data tables and metric models can be added to each space.
3. Enter the space name (required) and description (optional).
4. Click OK.
Note
When you use it for the first time, if the current Workspace has no analysis space, Buddy will pre-create a default analysis space to guide you through a quick experience.

Step 3: Manage Data in the Space.

After entering the analysis space, click the Data Knowledge Base Tab in the upper-left corner to go to the space's data knowledge base management page. At the top, you can filter by Data & Views/Semantic Knowledge/Business Knowledge types. Click any record to open its details:
Data Table Details: Table description and field list (field type / field name / field description).
Logical View Details: Displays information such as the SQL and fields of the logical view.
Metric Model Details: Fields are divided into two categories, "Metrics" and "Dimensions", and displayed separately.
Ontology Details: Displays information such as the ontology's properties and relationships between ontologies.
Note
Table details and metric model details are read-only. Metadata is managed centrally by Data Catalog and Semantic Models. To modify field descriptions or add example values, go to the corresponding page to edit them.

Step 4: Ask Questions in the Space.

After confirming that the data has been added to the space, you can ask questions directly in the conversation area. Buddy will search only within the tables, metric models, and space knowledge base in the current space.

Step 5: Manage Spaces via the More Menu.

In the space switcher, hover over the target analysis space and click the More menu (⋯) on the right to perform the following actions:
Operation
Description
Space information
Modify the space name, description, and example questions.
Add Space to Favorites
Favorited spaces are listed at the top of the list.
Share Space
Add space members. After sharing, the space is maintained by you as the administrator.
Embed Space
Embed the space into your own system.
Deleting a Space
Delete after confirmation. Conversations and artifact lists in the space will also be cleared.

Permission Model

Roles in the analysis space and the operations that can be performed:
Operation
Administrator
Editor
User
Using Space Conversations, Viewing Assets, and Viewing Knowledge Bases.
Creating, Deleting, and Modifying Tables / Metric Models / Knowledge Bases in a Space
Modify Space Members
Deleting a Space
Note:
Sharing a space does not grant the recipient access to tables in the Catalog. The recipient can only read assets in the space based on the permissions they have in the Catalog / Metrics Platform. Without access permission, questions involving this table will fail. Space membership and underlying asset permissions are two independent systems.

FAQs

Why Can I See a Table in Catalog but Not Select It When Creating an Analysis Space?

This is usually caused by one of the following two reasons:
Your account has only Catalog list viewing permission for this table, not content reading permission. Contact the Catalog administrator to grant the required permission.
The Catalog that contains this table is not the default Catalog of the Workspace and is not attached to your Workspace.

Why Can't Colleagues See the Space I Shared with Them?

Check the following:
1. Did you add the other party's account using the "More > Share Space" entry?
2. Has the other party switched to "Data Analysis" mode?
3. Does the other party have access permission to the assets in the space?

Can a Table Be Added to Multiple Analysis Spaces?

Yes. Tables and metric models are stored centrally in the Catalog / Metrics Platform. An analysis space only references these assets and does not copy data.
