Tencent Cloud disk Snapshots Self-help is open. Scheduled Snapshot Function, which makes it easy for developers to flexibly set backup job strategy.
It is recommended to adopt different scheduled snapshot strategies for different businesses. The recommended settings are shown in the following table:

Policy description

You can refer to the following table to learn more about the contents and features of scheduled snapshot's strategy in order to make better use of snapshots in your business.

Regular Terminate(important)Scheduled snapshot provides the function of Terminate on a regular basis, which sets the life cycle of snapshots (1-30 days) in advance, and automatically deletes the automatically generated snapshots when they expire, effectively reducing backup costs.
If the regular Terminate policy is not set, the automatic snapshot will be retained for a long time.
BatchYou can check multiple pieces of HDD cloud disk to implement the same scheduled snapshot strategy for multiple pieces of HDD cloud disk.
A single maximum of 80 pieces of HDD cloud disk batch Associate the same snapshot strategy.
Script pauseHDD cloud disk who is not in use will not implement the automatic snapshot policy.
HDD cloud disk, who is not in use, refers to Cloud Virtual Machine of Associate by HDD cloud disk.ShutdownThe status or data disk is not mounted.
Naming rulesThe name of the automatic snapshot is snap_yyyyMMdd_HH. Where yyyyMMdd is the date of the day and HH is the hour.
You can also manually modify the snapshot name.
For example, snap_20180418_11 represents an automatic snapshot created 11:00 on April 18, 2018.
Life Cycle(important)There are two lifecycles for snapshots:
  • Manually created snapshot, the life cycle defaults toLong-term storageAs long as the account balance is sufficient, it can be retained for a long time.
  • Scheduled snapshot, according to the creation rules, can be setRegular TerminatePoint in time can also be set for long-term retention.
  • Snapshot conflictThere is no conflict between the use of automatic snapshots and custom snapshots, but the time may conflict during the creation process.
  • When an automatic snapshot is being performed on a disk, the user needs to wait for the automatic snapshot to complete before creating a custom snapshot (and vice versa).
  • If the amount of disk data is large and the duration of one snapshot exceeds the interval between two automatic snapshots point in time, the next point in time snapshot will not be skipped automatically. For example, if the user sets 9:00, 10:00, and 11:00 as the automatic snapshot point in time, and the usage time for performing the automatic snapshot at 9:00 is 70 minutes (that is, 10:10 is complete), then the automatic snapshot will no longer be performed at 10:00. The next snapshot point in time is 11:00.
  • Snapshot quotaEach disk has a certain snapshot quota. If the number of snapshots of a disk reaches the limit, automatic snapshot job will be blocked by suspend.
    The main purpose of the snapshot quota is to prevent developers from forgetting a certain automatic snapshot strategy, resulting in an endless rise in storage costs.
    ASPRefers to the periodic snapshot policy, that is, Auto Snapshot Policy.
    ASP quotaA maximum of 30 ASP policies can be set for each region under a single Tencent Cloud account. The maximum number of hard drives in a single ASP is Associate.
    Preservation cycle
  • For automatic snapshots, the console displays repossess's countdown. It is supported to manually change the save cycle of automatic snapshots to permanent retention.
  • Displays permanent retention for manually created snapshots.
  • ASP pause function
  • ASP automatic snapshot policy provides manual triggerPauseAfter pausing, new snapshots will not be created automatically. However, the life cycle of the generated automatic snapshot is not affected by the pause function, and it will still be saved regularly by Terminate or for a long time according to the set rules.
  • Operation LogsDisplays the process of creating all automatic snapshots, the same as manually added snapshots.

    Operational guidelines

    Creating a Scheduled Snapshot Policy

    A maximum of 30 Tencent Cloud policies can be created in the same region under a single scheduled snapshot account.

    1. Login Scheduled Snapshot Policy page.
    2. Select region.
    3. Click [Create].
    4. On the Create Snapshot Policy page, set the following parameters and click OK. as shown below:

    NameRequired parameters.
    The name of scheduled snapshot policy, which supports a maximum of 60 characters.
    RegionRequired parameters.
    This parameter cannot be changed on the current page. For more information on how to set it, please seeStep 2.
    Backup DateRequired parameters.
    The date of the implementation of scheduled snapshot, can be checked: every Sunday-every Saturday.
    Backup TimeRequired parameters.
    Point in time, who executes scheduled snapshot, can be checked from 00:00 to 23:00 on the hour (depending on the actual operation of Backend Background, there may be a difference between the time set for the scheduled snapshot and the actual time when the console creates the snapshot. The data in the snapshot shall prevail at the time when the console is created).
    Storage PeriodRequired parameters.
    • Automatically delete after keeping a fixed number of days. The number of days can be selected from 1 to 30. The default is 30 days.
    • Permanently.

    Associate Cloud disks

    The same scheduled snapshot strategy supports up to 200 HDD cloud disk of Associate.

    1. Login Scheduled Snapshot Policy page.
    2. Select region.
    3. Click [Associate HDD cloud disk] in the line of the target policy.
    4. On the "Associate HDD cloud disk" page, check HDD cloud disk who needs Associate.
    5. Click [OK].

    Enable / disable scheduled snapshot strategy

    1. Login Scheduled Snapshot Policy page.
    2. Select region.
    3. Find the line of the target policy and click the switch button under the "scheduled snapshot" bar to turn the scheduled snapshot policy on or off.

    Modify scheduled snapshot's strategy

    1. Login Scheduled Snapshot Policy page.
    2. Select region.
    3. Click [modify Policy] on the row of the target policy.
    4. On the modify Snapshot Policy page, modify the relevant parameters (for parameter description, please refer to Step 4 ) and click [OK].

    Deleting a Scheduled Snapshot Policy

    1. Login Scheduled Snapshot Policy page.
    2. Select region.
    3. You can delete scheduled snapshot policy in the following ways:
      a. Single deletion: click "Delete" in the row of the target policy.
      b. Batch deletion: check the scheduled snapshot policy to be deleted, and click "Delete" at the top of the list.

    Convert an automatic snapshot to a permanently retained snapshot

    If the [snapshot retention time] in the automatic snapshot policy is set to [permanent retention], you do not need to do the following on the snapshots automatically generated by that policy.

    1. Login Snapshot list page.
    2. Select region.
    3. Click the ID of the target automatic snapshot.
    4. On the details page, click "long-term Save" to set the automatic snapshot to permanent retention.
    5. Return to the list of snapshots and see that the retention time of the snapshot changes to permanent retention.
