Enabling Elastic Bandwidth

Background

TDMQ for CKafka (CKafka) provides fixed bandwidth specifications and supports the specification adjustment feature, enabling users to adapt to business changes. However, in actual business operations, business traffic often undergoes unpredictable changes, data migration may be required, and scale-out time is uncontrollable, which can have unexpected impacts on businesses.
To address such issues, CKafka Pro Edition has added the elastic bandwidth capability, meaning that when business traffic exceeds the fixed specifications of the cluster, it will still provide a certain buffer to ensure normal business operations.

Feature Description

Elastic bandwidth is suitable for scenarios where business traffic occasionally surges. The portion exceeding instance specifications is billed in the pay-as-you-go mode and is subject to an upper limit. If business traffic consistently exceeds instance specifications, it is recommended to scale in or out quickly via the existing specification adjustment feature. For specific operations, see Changing Instance Specifications.

Constraints and Limitations

Currently, only Pro Edition instances support enabling elastic bandwidth.
This feature is controlled by an allowlist. To enable it or for higher elastic bandwidth, fill out the form.
Once enabled, elastic bandwidth cannot be disabled.
The available space of elastic bandwidth is subject to an upper limit, which depends on cluster specifications. The corresponding elastic range is as follows:
Bandwidth Range (MB/s)
Buffer Space (MB/s)
20 ~ 100
30
120 ~ 300

Billing Overview

Elastic bandwidth is billed in the pay-as-you-go mode. After the feature is enabled, no fees will be incurred if it is not used. For specific billing details, see Elastic Bandwidth Pricing.

Enabling Elastic Bandwidth

1. Log in to the CKafka console.
2. In the left sidebar, select Instance List and click Create to go to the instance purchase page.
3. On the instance purchase page, set the cluster type to Pro Edition, set elastic bandwidth to Enable, and select other options based on your business requirements.
4. After confirming the fees, click Buy Now. On the order payment page, click Pay. After completing the payment, wait for 5–10 minutes to see the created elastic bandwidth instance on the instance list page.

Viewing Monitoring Metrics

After enabling Elastic Bandwidth in CKafka Pro Edition, you will see two elastic bandwidth metrics on the cluster monitoring page. You can use these metrics to observe whether the buffer has been triggered. They can also serve as a reference for billing calculations.
Elastic bandwidth production traffic
The usage of elastic bandwidth production traffic for this cluster instance is summed at the selected time granularity.
Elastic bandwidth consumption traffic
The usage of elastic bandwidth consumption traffic for this cluster instance is summed at the selected time granularity.
For detailed descriptions, see Viewing Monitoring Data and Monitoring Metric Details.
