Overview

Cloud Object Storage (COS) is a distributed storage service from Tencent Cloud that enables you to store unlimited amounts of data and access it from anywhere via HTTP/HTTPS protocols. With COS buckets, there are no restrictions for data structure or formats, and no need for partition management, making COS storage highly suitable for virtually any use case, including data delivery, data processing, and big data computation and analysis. COS also provides a web-based console, multi-language SDKs and APIs, as well as command line and graphical tools, and is readily compatible with AWS S3 APIs, allowing easy direct access to community tools and plugins.

1. Resume uploads from the breakpoint

If an upload is unexpectedly terminated, you can resume the upload from the breakpoint to reduce the time spent on repeated uploads.


2. Customize object headers

The object header is a string sent by a server before it sends HTML data to a browser via the HTTP protocol. By modifying the header, you can change the response mode of a page or convey configuration information. For example, you can change the cache expiration time of a file without changing the file itself.


3. Static websites

Static websites only contain static content (such as HTML) or client-side scripts. Users who don't need to display dynamic webpages can use COS to complete the whole process from storage to display. Users can host a static website by configuring a bucket (linked with a custom domain name) for the website on COS.

By configuring a hotlink protection blacklist and whitelist for each bucket, when COS resources are requested externally, you can determine whether the Referer field in the HTTP request header is in the blocklist or allowlist and allow or disallow the external request accordingly. It can be used to prevent resources from being stolen and avoid the resulting additional traffic costs.


2. Cross-region access

By configuring a hotlink protection blocklist and allowlist for each bucket, when COS resources are requested externally, you can determine whether the Referer field in the HTTP request header is allowed or denied. This allows you to prevent your resources from being stolen and avoid the resulting additional traffic costs.


3. Multi-region storage

You can choose the nearest storage region based on your business needs to reduce latency. In addition, multi-region storage gives you the protection of remote disaster recovery.

1. Persistent audio/video processing

COS provides audio/video processing capabilities for mobile video apps. By using an integrated SDK to quickly connect to COS, you can perform video upload, transcoding, storage, verification, and playback, all from COS. This creates a closed-loop solution for upload, processing, and delivery of video data.


2. Professional image processing

COS provides mobile developers with a variety of flexible image processing services and highly-customized image content recognition services (such as porn detection and face recognition). You can directly crop, watermark, and rotate images on COS, without the need to call other common APIs.


3. FTP tool

A client tool is provided to manage files through the FTP protocol. The tool can be used to conveniently upload and download files stored on COS.


4. Hadoop tool

With the COS Hadoop tool, users can easily process data stored on COS using Hadoop big data processing engines such as MapReduce, Hive, Spark, and Tez.


5. Multiple data migration tools

Data from multiple platforms (such as Amazon S3 and Alibaba Cloud) can be migrated to COS.

Scenarios

COS provides multi-language SDKs for various application types for seamless access, including mobile apps, mobile websites, and HTML5 pages. When business booms and the volume of user-generated content (UGC) soars, COS scales automatically to meet the increase in requests and traffic demands. Because most UGC access requests usually occur at specific times, COS can separate hot and cold data, and it can store hot data in the STANDARD storage class and cold data in the STANDARD_IA storage class. COS automatically converts the storage class according to configured lifecycle rules, effectively reducing your storage costs.

Static resources are unstructured data resources that remain unchanged for a long time. Web services generally distinguish static resources from frequently changed resources according to particular rules.

Static resources (such as audio/video and image files) for your website can be stored with COS Standard storage, relieving the pressure on resource servers. Standard storage provides unlimited capacity and high frequency read/write capabilities to ensure that storage for your static resources is highly scalable and highly reliable. And with Tencent Cloud CDN's global network of acceleration nodes, files can be distributed to edge nodes ahead of time for faster access with minimal latency.

COS can be used as a data source for big data analysis regardless of the type of data (medical or financial data, or multimedia files such as images, audio and video).

COS supports the storage of exabytes of unconstructed data, providing high availability, high reliability, high security and high scalability. Analysis apps can be rapidly built and deployed using the Tencent Cloud Big Data Suite. After your high performance computing need is met, you can archive the data to reduce service costs and store it for long-term use.

Data uploaded to COS can be stored in multiple replicas across multiple regions at the same time. This allows you to recover complete sets of your data if it is accidentally lost or damaged. This also helps protect your data in the event of a natural disaster, ensuring that your data stays resilient and providing yet another layer of security.

Pricing

COS fees are broken down into five categories: storage, requests, data retrievals, traffic, and management features. Traffic fees, DEEP_ARCHIVE data retrieval fees, and management feature fees are on a daily billing cycle. This means that fees for the day are calculated and billed on the following day. The remaining billable items are on a monthly billing cycle, where the fees for the month are calculated and billed on the 3rd to 5th day of the following month.
