The network type of an Application Load Balancer (ALB) instance can be the public network or a private network. You can change the network type after the instance is created based on your business requirements.
Scenarios
This task guides you through changing the network type of an ALB instance between the public network and a private network based on your business requirements after the instance is created.
Changing from a private network to the public network: When your business requires public network access, you can change your private ALB instance to a public ALB instance by using an existing elastic IP (EIP) or the EIP automatically allocated by the system.
Changing from the public network to a private network: When your business no longer requires public network access, change your public ALB instance to a private ALB instance. After the change, the EIP allocated by the system is deleted but the EIP created by the customer is retained.

Changing the network type is irreversible. Proceed with caution. After the network type is changed from the public network to a private network, if you need to restore public network access, perform the change from a private network to the public network again. The newly allocated EIP differs from the original public IP address.
During the change, the service IP address of the ALB instance changes. When the network type is changed from the public network to a private network, the original public IP address may be released. Update the DNS resolution records in advance to avoid service interruptions.
After the network type is changed from a private network to the public network, public network traffic fees are generated. For specific billing details, see Billing Overview. During the change, do not perform other configuration change operations on the instance.
The change operation requires a brief interruption of existing connections. It is recommended to perform the operation during off-peak hours.

Changing from a Private Network to the Public Network
2. In the top menu bar, select the region where the instance resides.
3. On the instance management page, click the ID of the target private ALB instance.
4. On the basic information page of the instance, find the Network Type section and click Change Network Type.
5. In the displayed Change Network Type dialog box, select the automatically allocated public IP address or an existing EIP.
6. Confirm that the configuration is correct and click OK.
The change operation takes approximately one minute to take effect. You can view Network Type on the basic information page of the instance. When its value is Public network, the change is successful.
Changing from the Public Network to a Private Network
2. In the top menu bar, select the region where the instance resides.
3. On the instance management page, click the ID of the target public ALB instance.
4. On the basic information page of the instance, find the Network Type section and click Change Network Type.
5. Carefully read the must-knows in the dialog box and confirm that you understand the following impacts:
Please confirm that business traffic has been migrated or no longer depends on the current public IP address.
If the EIP is automatically allocated, it is deleted after the change. If the EIP is an existing EIP that was manually selected, it is retained after the change.
6. Select the checkbox to acknowledge the change impacts and click OK to complete the change.
The change operation takes approximately one minute to take effect. You can view Network Type on the basic information page of the instance. When its value is Private network, the change is successful.
