An EIP is a fixed public IP address that can be purchased and owned independently in a certain region. You can use EIPs to quickly map an address to another instance or a NAT gateway instance under your account to avoid instance faults. This document describes how to use EIPs.

Convert ordinary public IP addresses of Cloud Virtual Machine (CVM) instances into EIPs. After conversion, EIPs can be unbound or bound to CVM instances at any time, which helps achieve flexible management of public IP addresses.
If public IP addresses (including EIPs and common public IP addresses) are released or returned accidentally due to misoperation, they can be retrieved in the EIP console. Common public IP addresses are converted into EIPs after retrieval.
Binding EIPs
Bind EIPs to cloud resources, such as CVM instances and NAT gateways, to leverage EIPs for flexible disaster recovery and public network communication services.
Bind multiple EIPs to a single CVM instance to achieve traffic migration and improve CVM utilization.
If the quota of public IP addresses that can be bound to a single CVM instance does not meet your requirements, you can add secondary ENIs to bind multiple public IP addresses. This can achieve traffic migration and improve CVM utilization.
Managing EIPs
The EIP direct connection feature applies to scenarios where the public IP addresses of CVM instances need to be viewed. For example, the private network traffic and public network traffic are forwarded to different IP addresses.
The monitoring feature for Elastic IP (EIP) can help you use the related monitoring metrics (such as the size of public network incoming packets) to monitor traffic fluctuations in real time, detect exceptions in the fluctuations promptly, adjust the peak bandwidth of EIPs, and avoid access delays caused by bandwidth throttling.
The bandwidth or billing mode of EIPs can be adjusted as needed, and adjustments take effect in real time.
IP bandwidth package is a type of BWP. For more information, see Product Overview. After creating an IP bandwidth package instance, you need to add the EIP that will use this IP bandwidth package to the IP bandwidth package instance.
EIPs can be removed from IP bandwidth packages. After the removal, the billing mode will change to billing by traffic.
Based on the billing mode of EIPs, you can perform the following operations:
Unbinding/Releasing EIPs
You can unbind EIPs from cloud resources at any time and then bind EIPs to other cloud resources.
If you no longer use an EIP, you can release it in the console.
